Last July we were blessed to have three interns from Michigan State University: Grace, Monica and Brooke. You may not have seen them much as they visited most of the Y's on island and worked with our Metro head office, but it was definitely a delight to have them! In return, they share what they find memorable about the YMCA of Honolulu. Click "READ MORE" to see what they had to say. GRACE: The staff and members were incredibly friendly and happy to be there; it's a great place for the community to come together to get active. I really enjoyed my time at Kaimuki! BROOKE: My summer spent at the Y was great! All of the branches that I visited on Oahu shared the same feeling of love, community, and warmth. I met so many kind and incredible people within this program. Special thanks to Alex and Dindin for being so supportive and accommodating! Mahalo! MONICA: My favorite part about interning with the Honolulu YMCA was working with wonderful people both at the Kaimuki YMCA and at the Metro office. At the Metro office I worked with the Director of Philanthropy, Ms. Leslie, and I learned a lot about grant development and writing, and was able to see and work on a grant process from start to finish. Overall I strongly identify with the Y’s mission towards Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility, so working for a place that I believe in helped solidify my professional path to work for a nonprofit organization again in the future. Thank you Grace, Monica, and Brooke! Would you like to volunteer with us as well? Learn more about the Y Service Club.
