Hundreds of seniors celebrated National Senior Health & Fitness Day® with the YMCA of Honolulu and Generations Hawaii Magazine at the Kahala Mall Shopping Center!
“With Movement…There’s Improvement” was the theme of this year’s National Senior Health & Fitness Day on Wednesday, May 31, 2017, which on Oahu, was celebrated with a free Senior fair hosted by YMCA of Honolulu and Generations Hawaii Magazine at the Kahala Mall Shopping Center.
On this day, seniors across the country participated in thousands of events as part of the nation’s largest health event to encourage physical fitness, nutrition, and preventative care.
At the Kahala Mall, the YMCA and Generations Hawaii gathered more than 40 healthy aging resource organizations offering information on everything fromBalance Exercises & Training, Medicare, ID Theft Prevention and Solutions, Long Term Care and Nutrition to Decluttering, Downsizing & Organizational Tips.
Seniors also enjoyed free exercise classes (Tai Chi, Country Line Dancing, Zumba Gold), health screenings, entertainment, healthy cooking demonstrations and even a presentation on decluttering your home as well as prizes.
Each attendee received a Passport to Health to help them navigate throughout the air-conditioned shopping mall to visit all of the resource organization tables.
All attendees this year received a free 3-day pass to try any of the YMCA of Honolulu health and fitness facilities located throughout Oahu.
“The event was a wonderful opportunity for seniors to make, renew, and revitalize their commitment to live healthier lives through better health and fitness,” said Michael Broderick, President and CEO of the YMCA of Honolulu. “More than 30% of our Y members are seniors and we have special programs and activities tailored to meet their specific needs.”
